Why Sex and Robots?

        What is the fascination with sex and robots? Or sex with AI? These days, sexuality seems as much digitally rendered as tangibly understood. Is there still a difference between digital and physical sex?

            For some, sexuality may now be inexorably connected with technology. How true is this for the majority?  As humans continue to become more and more attached and addicted to their use of technology, and continue communicating with both themselves and others through technological avenues, what will they choose to keep specifically human? Is human sexuality still capable of existing without technology? Does the constant evolvement of technology assist humans in satisfying their sexual cravings, desires, fantasies, and structures more efficiently and creatively than anything corporeal? Will virtual or artificial sex surpass any need for commitment to the flesh?

            Exploring the complex relationship between sexuality and technology is important because it reflects how even one of the most basic aspects of being human, not to mention the most pleasurable, is affected by a digital drive to improve it somehow, or reconfigure its function toward something new. Perhaps the altering of sexuality through technology is a way for humans to reclaim sexuality away from the natural world.

            My story here is a very broad overview discussing as many perspectives on the issues of sex and robots I could muster up. There will be much left unsaid and undiscussed, and personally I have not developed a solid opinion on the matter…… but it is certainly a fascinating subject, and one that will persist throughout our lifetime.
